The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Darby Beckwith, a dedicated theatre teacher at Carson High School, has been honored as the 2024 Nevada State Theatre Educator of the Year. The recognition was bestowed during the Nevada Thespians State Festival at Liberty High School in Henderson, Nev. earlier this month.
Beckwith was selected for the prestigious award from a pool of exceptional educators from across the state. The recognition is a testament to her unwavering commitment to fostering creativity, passion and excellence in the field of theatre education.
“Throughout her tenure at Carson High, Beckwith has demonstrated exceptional dedication to her students, inspiring them to explore their artistic talents and develop valuable skills both on and off the stage,” said Mr. Dan Carstens, principal at Carson High School. “Her innovative teaching methods and passion for the arts have left a lasting impact on her students, colleagues and the broader community, who regularly attend plays and musicals in Carson City and throughout northern Nevada.”
In addition to her role within the classroom, Beckwith has been actively involved in supporting and promoting theatre education initiatives across the state, Carstens continued. Her leadership and advocacy have helped elevate the importance of arts education in Nevada, enriching the lives of countless students.
Nevada Thespians is a chapter of the International Thespian Society, a division of the Educational Theatre Association. The International Thespian Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt honorary organization for middle and high school theatre students.
