Cultures all over the world have diverse celebrations for honoring the dead. The Obon festival in Japan, The Hungry Ghost Festival and Qingming in China, Chuseok in South Korea, Pchum Ben in Cambodia and the Gaijatra festival in Nepal are just a few examples of how people take time to honor those who have passed on. Carson City Music Students Constitute 40% of the NZNMEA Honor Choir, Band

The Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association (NZNMEA) held its annual Honor Choir and Honor Band auditions last month. More than 300 music students auditioned for the 4 groups made up of students from neighboring regions and school districts including Douglas, Dayton, Churchill and Yerington. Of the more than 300 students who auditioned, 157 were chosen to participate in the Honor Choir and 91 in the Honor Band. Out of those 248 total music students, 96 were from the Carson City School District, making up nearly 40% of the ensembles, or 38.7% to be exact.   READ MORE...

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Carson High School NJROTC cadets sold pink aiguillettes to wear on their uniforms with all proceeds donated to the Carson Tahoe Health Cancer Center. Carson High Blue Thunder Marching Band Wins at Galena Competition

The Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band won first place in the AA Band Division at the Galena Performance of Champions field show tournament in Reno this past weekend. The band, performing their field show titled "Along Came a Spider," outscored all bands in their division with a score of 74.9. Last year, the band peaked at 69. Pinewood Derby Gives CHS Engineering Students Hands-on Experience

Carson High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) students received hands-on experience this week when they created and raced their own pinewood derby cars. The experience was more sophisticated than a typical Cub Scout contest because the introduction to engineering design students had to first create the car design using the computer-aided design (CAD) software, Autodesk. Claire Williams, 17-year-old junior in Karen McCraw’s Art class, received a Gold Key award and an American Visions nomination for her piece, The Rise of Awareness. Student Arrested for Bringing Gun to School

School district officials confirmed today that a Carson High School student was arrested for bringing a gun to school. No person was injured. The incident occurred in a.m. hours of Wednesday Feb. 23, 2022. School Resource Officers were immediately onsite and helped secure the situation. The school was never officially put on lockdown. The district is cooperating with local authorities, and an investigation is ongoing. All 11th grade students (juniors) are required (in order to graduate) to take the ACT Tuesday, March 1. All 9th, 10th and 12th grade students do not attend school that day (March 1). Please note, students will not have access to their cell phones during the ACT. Also, CHS does not provide calculators, so students will need to bring their own (review Calculator Policy here). Every student has been notified of their testing room assignment and should arrive at the school by 7:30 a.m. If students have questions about testing room assignments, they should go to the main office for assistance.  READ MORE...

New Leadership Roles for Carson City School Board

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce new leadership roles for the School Board of Trustees. At their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 11, Richard Varner, District 4, was named the newest president of the Carson City School District Board of Trustees. He replaced former President and Immediate Past President Joe Cacioppo, District 7, as the school board’s leader. Trustees Laurel Crossman, District 2, and Lupe Ramirez, District 1, were also named vice president and clerk, respectively.
